Jeff wanted to write a song that could not have been written 10 years earlier using currrent lyrics that included recent events and timely based technology that dates the song as 10 years after the beginning of the new millennium. Although the lyrics a current the music is retro circa 1960's giving it its "Retro Today" feel.
You were texting on your android at the Starbucks today
When we heard the barista say have a nice day
And we argued about the afterlife, bad romance and Mideast strife and cops riding those funky segways
Chorus:
The only songs you download are the ones by Cold Play
The things that bother you never bother me the same way
Posting on Facebook at the beach in Miami
Tweeting the picks of your coffee tsunami
The DVR is full of reality shows and every episode of Californication
We watch Family Guy even though it’s not funny
We laugh at Charlie Sheen, he’s making lots of money
TMZ says he’s a phony baloney a real strung out one trick pony
Chorus:
The only songs you download are the ones by cold play
The things that bother you never bother me the same way
Posting on Facebook at the beach in Miami
Tweeting the picks of your coffee tsunami
The DVR is full of reality shows and every episode of Californication
Bridge:
This song is outdated, but its here to stay
Its should be gone tomorrow, but its Retro Today
I wanna be cool like Snoop or Slim Shady
Crank out gangster rap but I’m more like Wayne Brady
Don’t want your Soul Sister or Big Brother Playing Twister
Or Miley’s Bong Party in the USA
